Second Round Games

Only 3 NVL teams are left after 5 went down in the first round yesterday.

#1 Seymour vs. #16 St. Joseph, 3:30 PM at French Park
#8 Holy Cross vs. #9 East Catholic, 3:30 PM at Holy Cross HS
#10 Wolcott at #7 Foran, 3:30 PM at Foran HS

Not sure about the other games, but I will definitely take St. Joseph to win. They looked absolutely outstanding yesterday and hit the ball even better than I saw Seymour hit in 3 games against Woodland. They said they have a lefty going today.

  1. there's no way anyone should say seymour is definitely going to lose to st joes. They put up a 23 spot yesterday and you're saying they don't hit well? Don't be surprised if this sparks the cats.

  2. Well, I would not say definitly but seymour may be in for a rough day if St Joe's pitcher is any good. Seymour does not hit as good when the pitching is above average.
St Joe's offense can make a long day for Renzoni if he is not throwing strikes......

  4. Kyle proved to be a prophet...Seymour lost to St. Joes.

Holy Cross and Wolcott advanced. HC to face St. Joe's next.

  5. St. Joe's knocked out Renzoni in the 3rd. It was a slugfest early, and it got to 8-4 St. Joe's on a grand slam by the freshman catcher, just like he did against Woodland. Seymour cut it to 8-7, but Taylor Searles tried to steal third after being bunted to second, but overslid the bag and was tagged out for the second out of the inning. They loaded the bases again with two outs, but John Murphy grounded out to short to end the game.

Cross is going to have their hands full.

  6. NVLBlogger hit my point right on the head, by the way. They don't hit all that great with above average pitching, just like you would expect. I didn't say that Seymour doesn't hit well... they put up 7 runs today just to prove that they can hit. St. Joe's is just, in my opinion, a better hitting team from what I saw Monday, and they proved me right again today.

  7. I heard the Wolcott game was a pitchers duel.Catalina was outstanding in going the distance with a 2 hitter.
Wolcott gets Waterford next and with their 2 arms they could get on a roll.
HC will have their hands full against that St Joe's offense

  8. Agreed Kyle. St. Joe's 1-9 was about as solid of a line up as I have seen. Seymour still could have gotten out of there with a win if -
    1. Kelo doesn't put on that batter to load the bases which led to the next batter (a frosh) hitting a grand slam.
    2. Gallo doesn't inexplicably try to run to third on a fielding error on a bunt.
    3. Kelo doesn't send the runner to steal third OR the runner doesn't over-slide third base and is called safe.

Any one of those three things don't happen, Seymour wins.

Shows you the difference between a 13-7 FCIAC team and a 19-1 NVL team. Not much difference.
