First off, I'd like to apologize to our readers for my lack of updates this past week or so. I was very busy with personal matters, making it hard for me to keep info (scores, standings, etc.) on the homepage updated daily.
Anyway, as we move along in the baseball season (so glad we finally have baseball weather!), we begin to have more and more important divisional matchups. And on Monday, we have some critical early season matchups within divisions on tap.
Woodland at Naugatuck - The Hawks seem to be coming together as a team after a sluggish start. They have been smoking past divisional foe, racing to top in the Copper. Naugatuck, while very young, has surprised me so far. This should be a very good game. Greg Rice will likely be on the mound for the 'Hounds. I am going to go with Naugatuck in a tight game, 6-4. Sorry Kyle! Haha.
Holy Cross at Torrington - Holy Cross came into the season as the favorite to win it all and I think their out struggles out of the gate have quieted those talks. However, despite the weak start, they have been coming on as of late. I think there is too much Holy Cross for Torrington to handle here. Crusaders win easily 7-1.
Sacred Heart at Kennedy - The Hearts have without a doubt been the disappointment of the league so far this season. However, despite their struggles, I still think they are one of the better teams in the league overall and can put on a huge win streak at any time. Kennedy has been over-matched all season long, but continue to work hard. Hearts win, and start to catch fire, 5-0.
Crosby at Ansonia - This should be a great game of two Brass Division rivals. Both teams have gotten off to great starts this season and are near the top in the league. The Chargers have really surprised me this season and I can see them being there in the end. This is a game to go see for sure. I'm going to go with Ansonia though, 5-4.
Watertown at Wilby - Watertown started the season off solid, but has been struggling a bit as of late against divisional foes of Ansonia and Wolcott. I look for the Indians to get back on track on Monday with a win against an underrated Wilby team, 7-5.
And finally, the big game, Seymour at Wolcott - Without a doubt, this is the game of the day. For me anyway, this game has NVL Championship game implications this early in the season. I believe these two teams match-up at almost every spot and it should be a dandy. The pitching matchup of Chris Renzoni vs. Spencer Kane is special enough in itself. I picked Wolcott from the beginning, and I'm going to with them here, as the Eagles win it, 3-2 in a classic high school pitchers duel.
That is a wrap for Monday. We've got some great, great games on tap for Monday, so you'd be foolish not to check out a game or two on Monday. I know I will!
Till next time,
NVL Baseball

Good to have you back around, NVL Baseball. Definitely, Monday is a great start to another important week. My picks:
ReplyDeleteWoodland- the offense is finally starting to come around and Nick Boucher will be on the hill, who has been pitching outstandingly.
Holy Cross- this one could be closer than people think, but the Crusaders strong pitching should be able to hold Torrington down.
Sacred Heart- as soon as the Hearts' offense can figure itself out, they'll be fine. Good chance to do it against Kennedy.
Ansonia- they are a deceptive team and can hit the ball well. If both the Chargers and Crosby keep up their pace, we might see them both in the NVL tourney.
Watertown- should be able to get on track after a couple tough games.
Seymour- I think the slightly stronger offense in this game comes out on top, although the Eagles always play very well at home. We'll probably see this matchup a couple more times this year.
On the poll front, I think we should have divisional champion prediction polls up for the next couple weeks, now that we're getting some separation.
Naugy over Woodland- Rice more than likely won't be ready after only 2 days rest after pitching against Torrington on Friday, but the Greyhound's young pitching staff and hot bats will look to force a 3-way tie in the Copper Division today.
ReplyDeleteHoly Cross over Torrington- Despite losing their starting shortstop and catcher to unrelated issues, the Crusaders bats proved to remain hot with a 10-3 win over Naugy on Saturday.
Hearts over Wilby- Sacred Heart finally starting to come around after a slow start. Should be a good game to get back on track with.
Crosby over Ansonia?- This prediction is based on whether Crosby's Kody Kerski will be on the mound or not. He has proved himself to be a dominant pitcher in the NVL and I don't see the Chargers plating too many runs against him.
Wilby over Watertown- Although their record doesn't show it, the 'Cats are a very tough team this year and are out to prove themselves with their first divisional win over the Indians.
Seymour over Wolcott- I don't see the Eagles tagging any of the Wildcats' pitchers and both Renzoni and Murphy have a short porch in right. haha
Seymour over Wolcott- With the amount of steroids available in this town... i have no doubt that they will take a big lead with homeruns. Once again, due to no absence of the roids... they will win. They will also lose again in soccer next year.
ReplyDeletePeter Pumplinich of Ansonia has grown a lot. As well as Billy Blumkin . aight 1
ReplyDeleteEasy Jay...
ReplyDeleteWoodland over Naugy, 3-1. Solid game by both teams. Mike Diurno's 2-run single in the 6th untied the game for Woodland.
Jay may have a point..it seems extremely logical..nice work
ReplyDeleteAnybody have the Seymour/Wolcott score?
ReplyDeleteI agree Kyle. Very good game. Your Hawks could be a very good team. My only worries with them, however, is the top of the lineup getting hot around playoff time, and finding someone to fill in for Boucher at shortstop when he is on the hill. The bottom of the lineup hit in all 3 runs yesterday, while the first 5 hitters scattered only 1 hit from Kyle Georgia. Boucher's replacement at short also had around 4 or 5 errors. Being undefeated in their division, fixing these small flaws will open doors to an NVL title for the Hawks.
ReplyDeleteAs I predicted the league is starting to finally shake out. HC is back on track with a 7-2 mark; Ansonia is looking good. But Seymour remains the king. Next week HC gets a chance to pay back Seymour and Woodland at home. Should be interesting.
ReplyDeletedid catalina give up all those runs to seymour?
ReplyDeletewow thats a disaster.
90 mile an hour fastballs go out of ball parks fast...................
not a disaster at all. It was 4-3 wolcott advantage going into 5. Catalina seemed tired going into the 5th.
